A tribute to the Oakland, CA based group. The towering Bari-Sax with its Funk hands looks at you with its Fedora Hat tipping over a trumpet head. This depiction of Steve “Doc” Kupka with the eternal support of Emilio Castillo’s Sax arrangements makes this a grand piece. Rebecca has seen this group perform more than any other in her life. She first became aware of them in 1970 while going to music school in the Bay area. After returning to Orange County, she watched them perform at the old “Golden Bear” Club in Huntington Beach. From their soulful harmonies of “You’re Still a Young Man” to the funky beat of “What is Hip?” T.O.P has given her enough energy to repair instruments late into the night. In 2008 will be Tower of Power’s 40th Anniversary. Their tribute of “I’ll still be diggin’ on James Brown” and the passing of the Godfather of Soul makes them the new “hardest working band” in show biz. A frenzied display of ever changing lightning gives the Power to the Tower.
