Music Without Borders- (Musica Sin Fronteras) – With the Mexican Immigration dispute in the forefront, Rebecca of a Navajo/Mexican family has strong beliefs of knowing all of North America was at one point one land and one people. Music transcends all people regardless of race, language, socio-economic levels and age. Musicians only care if you can perform your instrument, not whether you can speak the same tongue. Music is the universal language. Instead of a division between the Native Americans, European-Americans, Mexican Americans and Canadians, her answer would be to call all “North Americans” and the land, Norte America – and to be able to enjoy the culture, land and economic strengths that each have to offer. In this piece she shares the love of the guitar by both nations between the flags of America & Mexico. Using guitar picks for the coloration of both flags she also honors the ziggurat shape of the “Mexican Pyramids“, Chichen Itza and Aztlan. Both countries recognize the Eagle as their national symbol, so it is centered in the sound-hole. The maple leaf of Canada accents the headstock. The 12 stringed guitar is tuned to an open chord E.
