In 1962 when clarinetist, Acker Bilk released “Stranger on the Shore” the lingering melody stayed with the then 9 year-old ukulele playing Rebecca. She has used that tune for testing the playability of every clarinet she learned to repair. This piece is a miniature version of the 15 foot “Musical Garden” that lines the walkway of her repair shop featuring clarinets, flutes, trumpets, trombones, saxophones and a 150 year-old harp. When the children ask her “Where do you get all these instruments?” she explains, “I plant their mouthpieces in the spring and by fall they grow into instruments.” The piece depicts the growth of a clarinet as it grows into full maturity surrounded by its violin bow picket fence. Be sure to keep this piece watered.
